Beho Beho Bushblog – Godlisten – 29th August

I went out with Rob and Nancy on a game drive, we arrived at Lake Manze and our first sight was a pride of Lionesses with two Lions looking for a good place to hide from the sun, we watched them for almost half an hour before we decide to have our breakfast. We found a nice tree with a lovely view of the lake, I prepare the table and everybody was happy with a cup of coffee before we saw Lioness and two Lion pass near by. After they passed we packed everything up followed them and this finished up with them catching a young Wildebeest. 15 minutes was enough for the lioness to catch her breath before she started to opened up and start with internal part of the Wildebeest. After a while one male decide to take over and chased the female away.

Mostly females do the hunting but when it comes time to eat the males will be the first; it not easy for the males to hunt because of their body size which is bigger and the mane means that they are more easily seen than the females.  Also it makes the pride more secure from other males who are looking for a weak pride to take over and if they find young cubs they will kill them.
