Beho Beho Bushblog – Heribert – 5th February

As it’s getting drier and drier, water is slowly becoming a scarce commodity in the wilderness of the Selous. The animals are gathering in the herds little by little, and the competition for territory for the likes of hippos is getting a bit more intense. It was just the other day when we were driving up the roller coaster where we came across these two bulls on a standoff. We were not more than 15 meters from them and this was quite an experience. We watched these bulky beasts showing teeth and making loud sounds each telling the other I am stronger than you. It was perfect light with the sun setting so we got some nice photos of these two and that couldn’t make for a better sundowner. In the distance there was an incredible audience, giraffes standing tall, zebra and eland on the VIP seats, the graceful Impala not far behind all looking at this amazing tournament that could only be determined by these two bulls. This episode lasted for a good half an hour and finally they both walked separate ways, most likely they had made their points to each other and probably thought its best to avoid the actual fight. With the skies clearing we are beginning to get exceptional sunrises and sunsets, my favorite parts of the day.
